Now that we are heading into the Winter period of the year, our nurses, doctors and all other essential workers will feel the pressure.
Because our essential workers are spending a lot of time on the roads, and often travelling at early hours of the morning after long shifts, they could be more vulnerable while travelling.
- Make sure that you are aware of your fatigue because of your disrupted sleeping patterns.
- Try to recognise the signs of exhaustion that make it difficult to drive before you get in the vehicle – continuous yawning / struggling to remember the last few hours.
- If you are tired at the end of a shift, try to seek alternative transportation.
- Try to ensure that you have a good sleep before your shift – 8 hours does the trick.
- Take measures such as using aeroplane mode on your phone for no interruptions
- Listen to music to keep you focused in the car.
- Don’t overheat your car while driving.
- Try to travel in pairs if possible.
- Be cautious when it comes to caffeine – when it starts to wear off it can cause your energy levels to crash.
